Opening notice controls
Each submission window will publish its eligible genres, audiences, word range, materials, file limits, opening and closing times, simultaneous-submission policy, AI-use disclosure, response expectations, and retention period. The opening notice and these terms will apply together.
Ownership and permission
Writers retain ownership of submitted work. The submitter must own or control the material and have authority to submit it. Submission alone grants only the limited permission needed to receive, store, secure, and evaluate the material during the stated review period.
No offer or fee
Receipt, verification, review, or a request for additional material is not an offer or promise of publication. 13 Scions will not charge a reading fee. Any publication relationship requires a separate written agreement negotiated and signed by the relevant parties.
Confidentiality and similar material
A submission does not create a confidential, fiduciary, or nondisclosure relationship. Fantasy works may share ideas, themes, settings, and conventions, and the press may independently receive or develop material with similarities. Access to submitted files will nevertheless be limited to the editorial workflow described for the window.
File handling and security
Before intake opens, the submission notice will identify accepted file types and sizes, private storage practices, malware scanning, verification method, access controls, backup approach, and retention period. Manuscript text will not be written to ordinary application logs.
Status, withdrawal, and deletion
Verified applicants will receive a unique reference and a private status route. The opening notice will explain withdrawal and deletion requests, including any limited records retained for security, legal, or duplicate-prevention purposes.
