13 Scions Publishing was established in 2024 as a focused independent home for ambitious fantasy. From the beginning, its purpose has been institutional: to pair exacting editorial standards with the time, production care, and reader attention that a selective list can provide.
The novel is the center of gravity. Character, structure, language, pace, and consequence must work on the page before maps, games, guides, or other forms have any reason to exist. A richly developed world can deepen a story, but it cannot rescue one that is not ready.
That principle shapes the publishing model. 13 Scions is a traditional independent press: selective, author-centered, and responsible for the costs of publication. Authors acquired by the press will not be charged reading, editing, design, or publication fees. The press succeeds when its books find readers—not when writers purchase services.
Awakening the Seablade is the inaugural title, and Trexlin is the inaugural story world. The editorial, production, metadata, rights, and reader-communication systems developed around them are intended to support future acquired authors and their work on equivalent terms.
The name 13 Scions speaks to inheritance without sameness: distinct lives and stories emerging from a shared commitment to imagination. The future list will not be limited to Trexlin, one series, or one author. Its identity is the quality of the work and the care with which that work reaches readers.
